TABLEAU SERVICES MANAGER
Company: Tableau
Project: Tableau Services Manager for Tableau Server
Role: Senior UX Designer

To improve enterprise-ready capabilities, Tableau needed to improve it's limited configuration and maintenance services for Tableau Server administrators. The goal was to consolidate web UI, command line, and windows utilities tools into single, easy to use web console UI. Tableau Server admin customer wanted better tools for predicting and detecting problems with distributions of Tableau Server so they could spend less time troubleshooting and more time optimizing.
The Problem

The How
I was the product design lead for this project
-
I Worked across multiple engineering teams to drive this product to release of V1
-
Brought direction and clarity to the team while cultivating a healthier and more productive partnership between engineering , PM and design.
-
Led all levels of product design review with Tableau engineering, Design and product leadership.
-
Released and shipped V1 of TSM to our customers. Informed design for new features and improved existing UX based on customer feedback.
When all reviews were complete, the building process began. I worked with the development team during the entire process. This process ensured that the designs were properly translated into code. We had weekly reviews with myself and the developer team as well as scrum meetings that kept everyone informed.

I worked on designing different areas of TSM because it had been partially designed over the previous 3-4 years. Unfortunately prior design/engineering relationships had been badly damaged and there was a lack of trust between the teams. I worked diligently to build that trust and create strong, healthy relationships between development, engineering and UX through the process of finalizing the design and preparing to ship TSM.

The Solution
After a year of designing, reviews and coding, we shipped V1 of TSM for Tableau. L learned a great deal about building and maintaining relationships and trust with this project. This was a highly rewarding experience and I am honored to have been the designer who made this happen.
